Though a stand-bar by nature, a great place to take in a nicely paced meal if you can get a seat! Lots of choices at reasonable prices (izakaya-style portions) but focuses on a few ingredients, making for a refreshing take on the all-too-common Italian fare in Japan. Maruya--- It is a little Japanese food and sweets shop. Kokuhoku-ku, hiyoshihon-cho 1-19-2. Phone: 045-563-8108. Open: a.m.7:30-p.m.6:00. Regular holiday: Monday. About 1 minute from Hiyoshi station. Foods: Futomaki(?? 450yen), it is a thick sushi roll with eggs, cucumbers, kanpyo ( dried gourd shavings), and so on. Inari-zushi( 60yen), it is a kind of sushi wrapping with abura-age (deep-fried bean curd). sweets: Dango (60yen), these are dumplings with bean paste, kinako(soybean flour), and so on. Strawberry daifuku ( 150yen), it is a soft rice cake stuffed with been jam and a strawberry. Some worker buy the food for their lunch or breakfast before go to their office. If you pass the front of Maruya early morning, you can feel nice smell of cooking rice.
